Albanian President Ilir Meta said the election of the interim General Prosecutor is an exclusivity of the parliament and made calls to respect the Constitution.

According to the new Constitution, the General Prosecutor is elected by the High Council of the Prosecution Office.

Meta highlighted this is a very important matter and all parties must agree upon it.

“It’s important to have responsible negotiations among the main actors, based on transparent standards for the solution of this problem, because any biased step would not help the consolidation of the institutions’ independence and increasing the credibility of the new judiciary institutions”, Meta said.
