Country Manager of the World Bank for Albania Maryam Salim said the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) should not be considered as a possible solution for every problem the country has. Speaking publically for the first time since taking the position, Ms. Salim criticized the Albanian government’s “mania” to give with concession every public work.

“The Public-Private Partnerships are known worldwide, because the governments have the tendency to use these partnerships to fill the many needs in infrastructure. But they are not a solution for all the problems the governments have”, Salim told Scan TV.

“Not every infrastructure project should be left to PPP. Some of them should be managed by the government; some are destined to the private sector. It’s important to have transparence and being accountable. The World Banks is working closely with the Ministry of Finances to revise the investments, so that we can examine once more the risks and potentials for Albania’s economic development”, Salim said.
