The Albanian opposition parties, the Democratic Party (PD) and the Socialist Movement for Integration (LSI) have abandoned the meeting of the parliamentary committee of security.

The motive for such an extreme decision and of the harsh debates was a proposal of the LSI deputy Luan Rama to put in the agenda the issue of the Armed Forces’ radars non-functioning and their “control” by the drugs traffickers, following the tapping of the criminal organization “Habilaj”.

Immediately after abandoning the meeting, Luan Rama spoke to the media reporters, telling them the radars scandal has affected the standards of the national security and that urges for an investigation and the parliament’s intervention.

Rama said he requested to put it for discussion in the agenda, but the majority refused, referring to the Article 36, which defines that any request must be in written form.

The LSI deputy insisted that other articles of the regulations allow verbal requests in extraordinary case, such as the guarantee of civil control over the armed forces to find out why radars were turned off, but the majority still refused to put discussions in the agenda.

According to Rama, that shows the majority’s irresponsibility, by not allowing the deputies to speak about such an important matter.

Rama promised this is not over and the opposition and he will follow other constitutional ways to find the truth.

“We are determined to uncover the radars non-functioning affair, which have been turned off and commanded by the drugs gangs”, Rama said.
