There are many who have criticized the Prosecution for Serious Crimes for the “heist” to arrest former Interior Minister Saimir Tahiri and search his dwelling place and communication means for further evidence. The accusation organ was dubbed as unprofessional for requesting the lift of Tahiri’s immunity only two days after the tapping of the Italian Anti-Mafia Directorate became public. As a matter of fact, all the “heist” had one single goal: Not to give Tahiri and his people the time to hide any possible evidence for his case.

But time is exactly what Tahiri was able to earn. While the Socialist member of the parliamentary Committee of Mandates stalled the prosecution request, Tahiri organized “parties” till late at night in his place, with many noted journalists or people with immunity were invited.

The investigators were hoping a quick control would help them to find proof that connected Tahiri to Moisi Habilaj, the Albanian trafficker that was arrested in Catania, Italy, last week. But the votes of the majority burned that possibility as early as in the Committee stage.

Regardless the fact Tahiri’s residence and his family have been under surveillance, it was quite easy for the public persons to take away undisturbed any proof or the expensive jewelry that were mentioned in the Italian anti-mafia tapping.

At the same time with the cleaning operation in Tahiri’s apartment another one was being carried out at the Interior Ministry. Sources with knowledge told Syri.net the prosecutors faced an extraordinary resistance to search and sequestrate the documentation that is relevant to Tahiri’s work while he held the post of minister there.

For over ten hours the investigators were not allowed to do their job.

One of the most important parts of this “operation”, which included high officials of the Interior Ministry, directorate of the road transport, customs and border checkpoints, was the disappearance of the now-infamous Audi Q8, which – being a minister’s car – was used by the traffickers not only to smuggle drugs but also as a passport in the whole Albanian territory and all the border checkpoints with Greece and Italy.

Finding and sequestering the car was one of the first goals of the investigators, but they have found no track of it so far.

Prosecutors have discovered that the license number AA003GB has been unregistered from the register of the Directorate of the Road Transport and it results no longer in circulation.

Sources said Audi is now registered with another number, which is now “wanted” in the whole territory, but they still cannot find it.

Investigators suspect the vehicle has been disassembled and sold for scrap. The infamous Audi could have been one of the most important pieces of evidence for the Court for Serious Cimres.

Had the investigators found it, they could see whether the interior of Audi had been modified to create compartments to hide the drugs. They suspect the former minister’s car was not used by traffickers for transporting cannabis, but for smuggling expensive drugs, especially cocaine.
