Albania’s General Prosecutor Adriatik Llalla made a strong declaration about the cannabis traffic to Italy and the support of high officials for the traffickers.

Llalla said that once the high officials are under investigation, the politics intends to interfere, mentioning the case Habilaj, for which the Prosecution for Serious Crimes has asked the arrest of former Interior Minister Saimir Tahiri.

“The Judiciary Reform has been approved recently in Albania. One of the main novelties is allowing full independence to prosecutors for their investigations. So, they are masters of the cases they investigate”, Llalla said.

“But, this full independence should not and cannot be used as a possibility for anyone to blow the prosecutors’ investigations. It is of utmost importance for a prosecutor to carry on with the investigation uninfluenced and unafraid, even in the cases when high officials or ex-officials are the investigation’s subject”.
