Drugs and sneakers, the two addictions of the European Noriega

By Sali Berisha - 05/08/2017

Failed painter Edi Rama closed his first mandate becoming really infamous for the Narco-State he built in the recent years in Albania, totally deserving the tag “the European Noriega”, put on him by world’s most serious media. Truth is that for Rama, a drugs addict and user, it cannot be a crime but a supermarket and a super value.

That’s why he multiplied by 1250 the surface of cultivated with cannabis. He made Albania the second country in the world for cocaine’s consumption per capita and transformed it in the main hub of heroin’s traffic towards Europe.

But Rama became really famous in Europe for breaking the protocols of the international meetings and summits with his white sneakers.

The official protocol, as a century-old ethics of the bi- and multilateral political activities, always has the official moments in which the participants, in respect of one another and of the activity, have the obligation to present themselves with an official wear, while in the leisure time might and even be invited by the host to wear casually.

Edi Rama, being tagged by Europe’s most serious media as continent’s least important leader, badly complexed, chose the sneakers to become “important” or at least funny.

Because of the sneakers he was ousted from the familiar picture in Podgorica and lied to Albanians, telling them he left in a hurry to the airport, because his helicopter could not fly at night, even though the familiar pictures are shot immediately after the end of the summits’ sessions and last maximally 4-5 minutes.

By the other hand, Podgorica is only a two-and-a-half-hours ride from Tirana. But, despite of Rama’s advocates and sneaker-lickers, he feels deeply the disdain reserved to him in these summits. The disdain climaxed today with the New York Times’ report about his banning from the familiar picture.

The Times wrote that “Albania’s prime minister, Edi Rama, 53, a former artist and basketball player, showed up for the summit meeting in white sneakers”.

One can rightfully ask why Rama makes a clown of himself with his sneakers in the international summits?

Truth is Rama, grabbed by the syndrome of sneakers fetish, has become addicted to them.

Fetish, as a worship of an object or activity, is a syndrome by which the seized ones cannot get free, probably for years or for their entire life. That’s why there is nothing remained but wishing Rama not to be grabbed by other fetishes…
