All eyes on cannabis, but cocaine is wreaking havoc

All eyes on cannabis, but cocaine is wreaking havoc

Facebook Premier Edi Rama summoned the anti-cannabis Task Force yesterday and showed off that cannabis cultivation for this year is zero. Following the principle “a second order cancels the previous one”, those who allowed the major part of the territory transform into world’s biggest cannabis farm last year have decided to have one year off.

One year off for the cannabis cultivation, but, by the other hand, strong drugs, like cocaine, have sat legs-crossed in the country, which is both a key international transit hub and a narcotics market, especially for the youth.

Neither the Zero-Cannabis Premier Zero nor the chiefs of the law enforcing agencies that were present around the table for the prevention of narcotics talked yesterday about the latest report of the United Nations Office on Drugs, which they have had on their desks for days.

The latest official data from beyond Atlantic are shocking and reveal what is really happening in our country.

On United Nations World Drug Report 2017, published on June 23, Albania is mentioned like never before as one of the main countries in the cannabis plant cultivation and trafficking, and also for the use of strong narcotics from the youths. Albania is also one of the countries with strong evidence for the involvement of the groups of organized crime in the traffic of heroin, cocaine and cannabis.

The most surprising report is the one presenting Albania as the number one country in the world for the use of cocaine per capita. According to the map, the annual prevalence of use for Albania is 2.5% and it includes ages from 15 to 64 years old.

This is the highest percentage among all United Nations member countries that are included in the report.

The report triggers the national alarm that the Albanian youth and children are in an eminent danger from the poison of different drugs and their future destruction. The government must urgently establish a Task Force to monitor and prevent dealing and use of drugs in the public places, such as night bars and above all schools of every level. After the stain they put on Albania as the world’s biggest cannabis farm, now the classification as first in the list of cocaine and heroin use is not excessive but the climax of what is really happening beyond the façades of Rama’s government.
