Italian State Police and Guardia di Finanza have arrived to Albania again for the monitoring of the territory in the framework of fight against drugs cultivation, in cooperation with the Albanian Police.

Director General of State Police Haki Çako received today a delegation of the Italian law enforcing authorities, saying the fight on drugs is a top priority and the controls have started already in many areas, aiming to prevent the cultivation.

Joselito Minuto, commander of the third unit of Guardia di Finanza confirmed the added number of flights, to monitor the territory from the air.

“”We are ready to start the operation, based on our experience. We have calculated 30% more flights for this year, compared to the past one. Thanks to the advanced technology, he reduced in minimum the time needed for data processing, Minuto said.

Not it’s the moment to remember what Guardia di Finanza said last year, after finishing the monitoring of the Albanian territory.

Representatives of GdF told a press conference in Tirana last October that 99.8% of the narcotic plants cannabis sativa were destroyed.

Not even a month passed from this declaration, when, in November 2016, three tons of drugs were seized in a warehouse in Mirdita.

Later, in chronological order:

December 2016 – Nearly 5 tons drugs with origin from Albania were seized in Italy.

January 2017 –3.7 ton cannabis originated from Albania seized in Italy.

February 2017 – A lorry with 10 tons of cannabis aboard, departed from Albania, was seized in Italy.

March 2017 – Italian police seize 7.8 ton cannabis trafficked from Albania. 1 ton of cannabis is seized in a warehouse in Berat.

April 2017 – 1.7 tons of drugs is found in the Karaburun peninsula; 2 tons cannabis seized in Mat; another 12 tons seized in a warehouse in Përmet.

31 tons of cannabis sativa is seized in Albania for the period January-April 2017 only, when a few months ago Guarda di Finanza declared they had cleaned 99.8% of the territory. It is correct to ask the question of how credible the reports of the Italian authorities on the air monitoring, in cooperation with the Albanian police, are.
